Jogging Strollers

We’ve all seen the moms at the park, jogging with their child in tow in a jogging stroller. At first glance, it may seem that these strollers are designed only for the super-fit, serious runner mom. But, today, you’ll find that many moms are choosing jogging strollers, even if they don’t jog.

Jogging strollers are rugged and easy to push for mom. In addition, they provide a comfortable ride for baby. They are better balanced than most traditional strollers, too. They have larger wheels, and, in fact, there are many different sized wheels available. If you’re considering a jogging stroller, giving some consideration to how you’ll use it will help make your choice easier. Jogging strollers come with a wide variety of features and in a wide variety of prices. Here are some features you’ll need to consider when you purchase a jogging stroller.

Wheels
Wheels typically come in three sizes. The general rule is that bigger wheels are best for heavy running and strolling over rough terrain, because they can more easily maneuver over this type of terrain. Smaller wheels are better for walking on smooth surfaces. Larger wheels offer less resistance and more glide ability, while smaller wheels are easier to turn. Remember that wheel size is not related at all to stability.
• 20 inch wheels are for frequent running/off-road use. Larger wheels offer better glide, less resistance and easier curb and bump handling.
• 16 inch wheels are useful for frequent jogging/walking with light off-road use. These wheels are a good match for most users. They can handle anything from walking around town to running on a dirt path with no problem.
• 12 inch wheels (which are typically found on the least expensive jogging strollers are great for walking and around town, but are not the best choice for the serious runner. They also take up less room in the back of your car when the wheels are left on.

You’ll find jogging strollers available with aluminum alloy wheels or steel wheels. Most of the strollers purchased today have aluminum alloy wheels. These wheels won’t rust; this is a must in any area of the country where rust is a problem such as near the ocean. Jogging strollers are with aluminum alloy wheels are more expensive than those with steel wheels, but they’re much more durable, and much lighter.

Shocks And Suspension

Many riders don’t need to spend the extra money it costs to get a jogging stroller with shocks. However, if you’re planning to run on very rugged terrain, you might find that you need an infant jogging stroller with shocks for a more comfortable ride.

Beyond these two important features, the rest of the decision on which jogging stroller to purchase is primarily based on features, style and budget. High quality strollers cost more, but will have more features and be more durable. Consider how you’ll use your stroller and make your choice from there. You’re sure to enjoy the comfort of a jogging stroller.
