Toys

We’ve all been faced with the task of buying a gift for a child without really knowing what he or she will like. Of course, buying a gift for a child is much easier if you know them well, but there are some sure fire pleasers for every age. Here are some suggestions for toy gifts when you’re stuck. Check age recommendation guidelines, particularly when purchasing baby toys. Toys designed for older toddlers and elementary aged children often have small removable parts that could present a choking hazard to children under the age of three. And, don’t feel bad about asking parents about a child’s interests or hobbies. Parents may be able to point you in the right direction so that you choose a gift the child will love.

Baby Toys

Choose bright colors and soft textures for babies. Stuffed animals are great as are musical toys. If you know that the family has allergies, choose organic baby toys to ensure that dyes and fragrances don’t irritate delicate skin. Infant learning toys are always appreciated; just be sure they’re age appropriate. Older babies will love walk behind toys and many will like “surprise” toys like a jack in the box or other toy that can make them smile. Older babies and toddlers also love toys for the bath.

Toddler Toys

Toddlers are in a constant state of motion and a constant state of learning. Choose toys that cater to these two important pieces of development. Some of the best choices for toddlers are educational toys that help them develop verbal skills or motor skills. For older toddlers, toys that help them learn their numbers or alphabet are always a good choice.

Early Elementary Children

At this age, children are often very interested in superheroes or other characters. Check out all the gear on the newest character of the moment or most popular children’s television show. They may also enjoy video or personal gaming device games. Check with parents before you buy these and also check the game’s ratings.

Tweens

These kids are often the hardest to buy for. They’re getting a bit old for toys, but they’re not really teenagers yet, either. Girls usually like all things girly, including clothes and hair accessories. They may also be concentrating on a particular sport or activity and appreciate accessories for their favorite pastime. Boys will also likely have a favorite sport or activity at this age, and are usually very happy with sports equipment. Kids this age often appreciate gift cards, too.

Teens

Teens love cash and gift cards. In addition to store gift cards, consider those for music downloads, movies and food.
