Baby Swings
One piece of baby gear that no home with an infant should be without is a baby swing. Baby swings are a wonderful way to keep infants occupied and safe, giving parents a chance to relax for a few minutes.
Baby swings are especially helpful at soothing fussy babies. The rhythmic motion of the swing will almost always calm baby down, and often aid in getting him to sleep.
Nearly every manufacturer of baby gear makes a baby swing. You’ll find floor models and tabletop baby swings, which are great for traveling. They come in a wide variety of price ranges and have many different features. Here are some things to look for when choosing your baby swing.
• A Wide Base – The wider the base of the swing the less likely it is to topple over.
• Secure Straps – Make sure that the infant can be strapped into the baby swing set securely. As your baby gets older and has the ability to move around more, this is very important.
• Multiple Speeds – Newborns will be happy with the swing on the lowest setting, but as your baby gets older, she’ll want to move a little faster. Three speeds are typically enough for even the most speed demon baby.
• Music – Soothing lullabies can help babies get to sleep and sleep more soundly because the music can block out white noise around the house.
• An Open Top – Some swings are designed with a bar that goes horizontally over baby’s head, while others are designed with an open top. An open top design means you’re less likely to bump baby’s head as you take her out of the swing.
• A Mobile – Very young babies will get lots of entertainment from gazing at a mobile above the swing, particularly if it moves.
• Reclining Seat – You’ll appreciate the reclining seat when your infant is young.
• Removable Seat Cover – A washable seat cover that can be removed is helpful for keeping the swing clean.
•
• Canopy – On warm days it’s nice to be able to take the swing outside. But, if you plan to do this, you’ll need a canopy for protection from wind and sun.
• Activity Tray – Older babies will appreciate some entertaining activities on the swing.
A baby swing is a great way to keep baby occupied or provide an additional place for napping. Choose one with care and it’s sure to be one of your most often used baby accessories.
