Crib Bedding
Your crib bedding is an essential part of your nursery décor. In fact, in many nurseries the entire theme revolves around the bedding. But, whether you select your bedding first and create the room around it, or develop your theme first and then find bedding to work with it, you can be sure that your crib bedding set is one of the most important choices you’ll make for your nursery.
Some of the things you’ll want to think about when choosing crib bedding include:
Your Theme – Many parents like to choose a theme, and then coordinate bedding to go with it. This approach is usually best if you’re trying to create a nursery décor that will last for a long time. If you choose a theme and coordinate your bedding to go around it, the theme doesn’t disappear once the child outgrows the crib and crib bedding. For example, if you choose a beach theme for your nursery, you’ll have no trouble finding crib sized fish or other sea bedding to go with your theme. When your child outgrows the crib, it will also be simple to find regular sized bedding in your chosen theme.
Your Budget – Crib bedding comes in every imaginable price range. If you’re on a budget, consider buying cheap crib bedding that fits in with your décor but doesn’t take center stage. Choosing simple bedding in solids, stripes or gingham will look great without breaking the bank. After all, your baby only uses crib bedding for a short period of time. Or, if you want to go all out, choose designer crib bedding that goes perfectly with your theme.
Baby’s Gender – If you know the sex of your baby ahead of time, then you can create a very gender specific room. However, if your baby’s gender will be a surprise, you’ll need bedding that’s more neutral. Some popular color schemes for gender neutral nurseries include black/white, beige/green, green/yellow and red/white. Many parents choose to purchase some of their nursery items ahead of time in neutral colors, and then fill in with other colors after the baby arrives. For example, with a black and white nursery, you could easily add pink accessories for a girl or blue for a boy.
Fabric – Crib bedding comes in a variety of fabrics. Be certain to choose soft fabrics that feel good next to your skin. If your baby is being born in the winter, buy a few crib sheets in flannel to help keep baby warm. T-shirt knits are soft and suitable for all times of the year. And, don’t forget to wash all of your crib bedding before use. Babies’ tender skin can be sensitive to unwashed fabric.
