Bottle Warmers

While your baby is really young, you may want to warm his bottle. Technically, bottles don’t need to be warmed – babies are perfectly fine drinking room temperature formula. However, some parents prefer to warm formula. And, of course, there will be times when you are feeding formula that has been refrigerated. In these cases, the formula will at least need to be warmed to room temperature.

Today, bottle warming is very convenient. Mothers used to be confined to warming bottles in a pot of hot water on the stovetop. However, today, there are several different kinds of bottle warmers to choose from, depending upon your lifestyle and needs.

Most parents will want a baby bottle warmer for the house. You can find several inexpensive ones that plug into an electrical outlet. Bottle warmers of all types are available at stores that carry baby supplies. These convenient bottle warmers always warm the formula to a safe temperature, so that you needn’t worry that it’s too hot for baby.

In addition to a bottle warmer for the house, it’s very convenient to have some sort of portable bottle warmer. These are typically smaller, just warming one bottle at a time, but they travel well. Some are electric and others are battery operated, which is perfect if you travel frequently by air. You can even find car bottle warmers that plug right into your cigarette lighter.

To make nighttime feedings more convenient, you might consider keeping pre-measured formula, bottled water, a bottle and bottle warmer in your nursery. That way, you can mix and warm a bottle with ease in the middle of the night without even a trip to the kitchen. Portable bottle warmers are small enough and inexpensive enough that you can have one stored away wherever you need one.

While bottle warmers are designed to warm milk to the perfect temperature, it’s still wise to test baby’s milk before feeding, particularly if you warm a bottle that’s not entirely full, because the milk may get warmer than you think. Testing ensures that the milk is at just the right temperature.

When your baby is bottle feeding, getting everything ready can seem like quite a chore. A bottle warmer is one way to make getting those bottles ready a lot simpler. No longer do moms need to heat a pot of water on the stove to get that milk to just the right temperature!
