Corner Cribs
If you’re decorating a nursery, but are short on space, you might want to consider purchasing a corner crib. Corner cribs, as their name implies, fit into the corner of your nursery, taking up far less space than a traditional or round crib. In addition to taking up a smaller amount of space, they also make arranging the other furniture in the room easier, since more of your wall space is unused. Corner cribs are extremely popular with parents of multiples, because the cribs allow you to more easily place multiple cribs in one room.
Though corner cribs are smaller than rectangular cribs, you sacrifice very little sleeping space, and your child can sleep in a corner crib for just as long as a rectangular crib. The average rectangular crib has about 1350 inches of sleeping space, while a corner crib offers about 1256 square inches of sleeping area. In addition, the front side of a corner crib is 60 inches long, which is actually longer than a rectangular crib, at 54 inches, so it can technically accommodate a taller child.
You’ll find corner baby cribs in every material you’d expect to find other cribs made from, and you’ll find many different styles to accommodate your decorating tastes. Some corner cribs come equipped with canopies, too. A corner crib will cost you a bit more than a standard crib, but may be worth the extra expense for the space it saves, particularly if you’re working with a small nursery.
When it comes to purchasing bedding for corner baby cribs, you will be somewhat limited in your choices and in where you can purchase. Typically, corner crib bedding and mattresses are only found at stores and online outlets that sell corner cribs. However, some boutique baby shops are beginning to carry accessories for corner and round cribs, so shopping should get easier. Plan to purchase a bedding set and a few extra crib sheets when you purchase your crib and mattress to ensure you have enough. You’ll likely spend more on bedding for a corner crib than a standard crib, as the sheets are more difficult to find, and priced higher than standard crib sheets.
A corner crib is a unique way to make the best use of the space in your nursery and create a beautiful décor at the same time. Your corner crib will look great, provide more useable floor and wall space in the room and provide your infant with a comfortable and healthy place to sleep for a long time.
