Maternity Clothes

For the first time expectant mom, it can seem strange to be choosing a whole new wardrobe to wear for just a few months. And, it can be expensive, too. But, with some imagination and planning you can create an entire wardrobe of maternity clothes to get you through your pregnancy in style without breaking the bank.

You’ll probably start needing maternity clothes at around 4 or 5 months pregnant. However, if you start feeling the need to wear them sooner because your pants or skirts are feeling tight, then by all means do so. There’s no reason to go around feeling uncomfortable.

It’s not a good idea to buy your entire maternity wardrobe when you’ve just begun to need to wear them. You’ll buy some things that will be useful your entire pregnancy, but others may get too small before you deliver. Save some room in the budget to buy more clothes later in the pregnancy if you need them.

Maternity clothes once looked a bit like sacks on pregnant moms, but those days are gone. Today, there are many places where you can get hip maternity clothes that suit your regular style. Shop around to get an idea of the maternity shops that have the best selection of clothes that suit you.

Start with some basic bottom pieces. Buy a pair of jeans, a pair of black pants, one other pair of pants in a color that suits you and a black or other neutral colored skirt. You may also want to buy one solid colored dress; black is a good choice for this too. If the weather is warm buy a pair of shorts or capris in denim or a neutral color, too.

To these basic bottom pieces add a white shirt or sweater set and then some other tops to mix and match. If your workplace is fairly casual, choose some tops that will look great with jeans and your other pants and skirts.

As your pregnancy progresses, you’ll be able to add some additional pieces, but with this basic wardrobe you’ll pretty much be set for most days of the week.

Don’t forget to buy some comfortable maternity underwear, too. Don’t spend too much money on these, as they’ll likely wear out or stretch out and have to be replaced before the end of your pregnancy even if you spend a bundle on them.

Shopping for maternity clothes shouldn’t be a chore and you shouldn’t have to give up your sense of style just because you’re pregnant. Shop around and find the right maternity clothing stores to help you put together a great maternity wardrobe.
