Bonnets

The right hat is a great accessory for baby’s outfits. A hat/bonnet can look great with nearly any style outfit, so long as you choose the right one. But, fortunately, baby hats are easy to find and come in every style.

In addition to being an adorable accessory for baby, hats are also very functional. First of all, young babies become chilled very easily because they lose body heat much faster than we do. So, a hat can be a good way to help keep babies warm, particularly when they’re very young. In addition, baby’s skin is very sensitive to the sun. In addition to sunscreen, which shouldn’t be used on babies under six months old, a hat is a great way to protect baby from the sun.

In fact, most pediatricians recommend that you keep a hat on your baby any time she is out in the sun. A wide brimmed hat will protect baby’s skin and eyes from the intensity of the sun, particularly in the summer. Baby will also feel cooler when shaded by the brim of a sun hat.

In the winter, a toboggan style hat will help keep baby warm, and is an important part of baby’s outerwear wardrobe. Jacket hoods simply don’t work as well when your child is a baby. Hoods don’t fit as snugly as a hat and they also don’t stay put as well as a hat.

Many parents complain that their babies keep removing their hats once they become old enough to do so. The best way to prevent this is to start baby wearing hats at a very young age. If baby wears hats often from the very beginning, the hats will feel comfortable and normal, making them less likely to remove them. However, as your child develops his sense of independence, even the most experienced hat wearer will feel the need to remove it from time to time.

To keep from losing those hats when baby decides to remove them, find those that attach to the coat with a clip or pin. This way, when baby removes his hat and drops it, the hat will remain nearby.

As with other baby clothes, hats should be washable whenever possible. Nearly everything baby owns will get dirty and gain stains over time. So, it’s important to have things that wash well. Seersucker and cotton are great for summer hats and choose sturdy knits or fleece for winter hats.

So, as you see, hats aren’t just for fun! A variety of hats for all seasons is a great addition to your baby’s wardrobe.
